Variations
Variations and Modifications to BAG
- Use Blank Official BAG scorecards to create your own Par 36 course (all Par 2’s), Par 54 course, (all Par 3’s), or any combination.
- Players may use ball fakes, come off screens, jump stops, dribble stops, make certain cuts or receive various types of passes before shooting.
- Opposing players may put one or two hands in shooter’s face.
- Add penalty strokes for players who do not rebound ball within one or two bounces.
- Have an opponent of the player shooting make the prediction “Bank Shot” or “Nothing but Net” when the shooter decides to shoot for a Hole in One, Eagle, or Birdie.
- Players may designate a shot or spot for each miss instead of a lay up or shooting from where they receive the rebound.
- When creating your own holes, include any shot that you want, it is your course. Dunks, hook shots, half court shots, trick shots are welcome – just remember that each shot counts as a stroke. Creativity is encouraged and welcomed in designing a BAG hole’s layout.
- Younger or newer players may move in as many feet as possible so that they are having fun and being challenged.
- Have a Maximum score of 8 on a BAG hole for beginners – BAG should be fun and challenging, not impossible.
- NCAA and NBA 3 point line BAG Scorecards available soon. Until then, Professional players may modify the Founder’s Course by placing the BAG shooting spots on the basketball court – move as many steps backward as necessary – kind of like playing from the Pro Tees.
- Variations of BAG include many traditional formats of golf games including: Stroke Play, Match Play, Greensome, Stableford, Alternate Shot, and Best Ball.
Stroke play – Every stroke counts and the player with the lowest total at the end of the round wins.
Match Play – Go versus your opponent on every hole. The player who wins the most holes wins.
Greensome – – In this two-on-two team game, you and your teammate choose your team’s best result from ‘bag’ shooting spot 1, then alternate shots from that point on the rest of each hole.
Stableford - – Points are given based on your score on each hole: Hole in One (8 pts.), Eagle (5), Birdie (2), Par (0), Bogey (-1), Double Bogey or worse (-3). The player with the highest score at the end of the round wins.
Alternate Shot – A two-on-two team game, the players on each team alternate shooting from different ‘bag’ shooting spots on every hole. (The first player shoots from ‘bag’ shooting spot 1, the second player shoots from ‘bag’ shooting spot 2, the first player shoots from bag’ shooting spot 3, and so on until the hole is completed.) Each team rotates which player shoots first from each hole so the same player doesn’t shoot from ‘bag’ shooting spot 1 every time.
Best Ball – The best individual score among teammates is used as the team score for the hole. Those scores are applied in a stroke play format to decide which team wins the round.
Virtually any traditional golf that we have read about can be adapted to BAG in one way or another.
